Cooling System
The cooling system of your vehicle is composed of six main parts:
- Engine
- Radiator
- Water Pump
- Radiator Fan
- Hoses
- Thermostat
During the combustion process, some of the fuel energy is converted into heat. This heat is transferred to the coolant being circulated through the engine by the water pump. The coolant is routed through the radiator where it is cooled and then returns to the engine to pick up more heat and the process is repeated all over again. The thermostat’s job is to keep the engine at proper operating temperature by regulating how much coolant is circulated.
Coolant/antifreeze needs to be replaced at recommended intervals to prevent rust and corrosion build up and keep the system working at peak efficiency. If the coolant/antifreeze mixture is not maintained at proper levels it can lead to rust, water pump and heater core failure. Hoses deteriorate over time and can leak. Even a thermostat that is not operating correctly can cause the engine fuel to air ratio to be incorrect.
We can inspect, maintain and service your vehicle’s cooling system so it is doing its part to keep the engine running efficiently.
